The Firestop Contractors International Association (FCIA) is proud to announce the release of its position paper, The Global Language of Passive Fire Protection: Understanding the 'DIIM'TM Way.
The landmark document advocates for the worldwide adoption of the 'DIIM'TM of Firestopping framework to create a unified global language for passive fire protection. This framework provides a standardized, holistic approach to effective passive fire protection, emphasizing four critical components:
- 'D'esign: Proper specification of firestop systems and compartmentation by architects and engineers to meet building codes and standards.
- 'I'nstallation: Expert installation by qualified firestop contractors to ensure systems perform as intended.
- 'I'nspection: Independent, third-party inspections to verify compliance and functionality of installed systems.
- 'M'aintenance/Management: Ongoing maintenance of protection to preserve the integrity of fire barriers over time.
FCIA invites building professionals, policymakers, and safety advocates to review the position paper and adopt the 'DIIM'TM framework. By embracing this global language of passive fire protection, we can enhance fire safety, reduce risks, and protect communities worldwide.
