FM and UL-ULC Firestop Exams

For those Specialty Firestop Contractors and Special Inspection Agencies conducting specialty firestop inspections that are looking to set themselves apart from the competition, the FM 4991 ApprovedUL-ULC Qualified Contractor, and IAS AC 291* Programs are credible 3rd-party accreditation programs. For all three programs, the first step towards becoming an Accredited firm is taking – and PASSING – the Firestop Exams.

Preparing for the FM and UL-ULC Firestop Exams is a long process. Both exams are based on the FCIA Firestop Manual of Practice and are offered at ALL FCIA Conferences and Symposiums throughout North America, Canada, and the Middle East.

To help prepare for the exams, FCIA offers a variety of options:

  • The FCIA Education for the Firestop Exams education sessions – a 4-hour curriculum comprised of Education for the Firestop Exams and Quality Management System Manual seminars held directly before the Firestop Exams (available at all FCIA Conferences and Symposiums)
  • Monthly webinar sessions covering a variety of topics all related to the firestop and effective compartmentation industry
  • Extended webinar sessions covering the FCIA Education for the Firestop Exams education sessions (available to FCIA Contractor and Special Inspection Agency Members ONLY)

Those writing the ULC Firestop Exam are required to complete the UL Core Exam, plus an additional 25 questions for the Canadian supplement. This supplement is added to the core UL Firestop Exam and graded as a whole.
