Find a Firestop Professional

08/31/21

Did You Know…Back in 1999, FCIA asked Mike Pfeiffer, VP Codes at ICC, ‘Why don’t we have firestop inspection like fireproofing does?” Mike replied, “Does your industry have inspection standards? Have you submitted a code proposal to add it to the IBC?”

FCIA’s Standards Committee formed that day, and FCIA hired a consultant to write the first draft of ASTM E2174, (Penetrations). FCIA was the proponent – with Bill Koffel (Koffel Associates) – to adding ASTM E2174/ ASTM E2393 (Joints) to the 2012 International Building Code.

FCIA hit the ground running back in 1999, advocating for the firestop and effective compartmentation industry, and we haven’t stopped.
