FEP Firestop Level 1 - The ‘DIIM’ of Firestop for Fire and Life Safety

The FEP Firestop Level 1 Program, 'The 'DIIM' of FirestopTM for Fire and Life Safety', is the entry point for the FCIA Education Program (FEP). 

In this Firestop Level 1 Program, participants master content covering the elements of the proper 'DIIM' of FirestoppingTM - 'D'esign, 'I'nstallation, 'I'nspection, and 'M'aintaining Protection - to lay the foundation for the next section.

The proper 'DIIM' of FirestoppingTM results in a safer building and improved fire and life safety systems in buildings.

Receive CEU credit from FM & UL-ULC for completing the Firestop Level 1 Program.

1. 'D' - 'D'esign

Design, tested and listed systems and construction documents.

2. 'I' - 'I'nstallation

'I'nstallation in accordance with systems and Manufacturer's installation instructions by a Specialty Firestop Installation Contractor with processes that result in properly installed firestop systems.

3. 'I' - 'I'nspection

Firestop Systems 'I'nspected in accordance with ASTM E 2174 and ASTM E 2393 by competent, independent Firestop Special Inspection Agencies with proper equipment, competent personnel, and experience, adding an integral quality-check of the firestop installation process.

4. 'M' - 'M'aintaining Protection

'M'aintaning Protection of existing fire-resistance-rated and smoke-resistant assemblies, using Barrier Management Systems for fire-resistance-rated and smoke-resistant assemblies and firestopping, is critical to fire and life safety.
