New Orleans FCIA Meeting, Nov. 7 - 9, 2001, August Board
Meeting, FCIA Presentations to the industry...
We at FCIA Headquarters hope you and yours had a good
summer. As with every year, now is the time to
"get back into the swing of things". FCIA is really moving
with much going on and big things coming up!
FCIA Meeting - New Orleans, LA - November 7 - 9,
2001 - Call the Renaissance Hotel, New Orleans to
make a reservation at (888) 364-1200, reference "Firestop
Contractors International" group. Room rate is $189.
per night, plus tax. There are many conventions in New
Orleans at this time making early reservations essential.
The Program committee (Scott Rankin, Pyro-Stop, LLC; Bob
LeClaire, A.F. Underhill, Inc., co-chairs) has been hard
at work on the agenda around the theme "Strength through increased
Technical Knowledge" . Listed below are a few
highlights by day.
Wednesday, November 7 - Pres. Welcome, Review
Committee Mission Statements & Reports, FM & UL Updates,
Committee meetings, Group Reception, Dinner on own.
Thursday, November 8 - Joint Commission on Accreditation
of Healthcare Organizations Discussion, Educational Committee
Presentation, breakout sessions by equipment specialists,
perimeter fire containment roundtable & FCIA
Banquet.
Friday, November 9 - Committee wrap-ups, committee
rollouts, FM Testing, FM "How to Get Approved" Session, Annual
Business Meeting, Election results.
A formal announcement and a faxback form will be sent in
early September. The Program Committee looks forward
to seeing you there!
FCIA Board Meeting - Kansas City, MO - August 2/3,
2001 - The volunteer Board of Directors of FCIA met in Kansas
City to discuss FCIA business. Committee reports were
heard with much activity taking place. The Education
Committee is developing an "FCIA" Presentation for use by
members. The Technical Committee, (Chaired by Mike
Dominguez, Firestop Specialties, Miami, FL, with board
liaison Kathy Taraba, 1 Source Firestop, Henderson, CO),
is quite active and meeting as a group in Colorado to work
on the Manual of Practice; Sub Committees of Technical; Codes
had a strategic planning session with our Code Consultant,
Bill Koffel; Don Sabrsula, FireSafe of Houston, Inc., continues
to move the "3rd Party Inspection Standard" forward at ASTM.
Voting on the standard to take place this fall.
FCIA Presentations - Randy Bosscawen and Dave Daniel
of MultiCon Construction, Columbus OH, presented the new
"FM 4991 Firestop Contractor Approval Standard" and FCIA to
the "Annual Conference on Fire Safety", Columbus, OH in July.
In early September, FCIA will be featured in the Eastern States
Insulation Contractors Association Fall Conference.

FCIA & FM 4991 - According to Accreditation
Chair, Aedan Gleeson, Architects are starting to specify
"FM 4991 Approved Firestop Contractors" in construction documents
as a qualification for general contractors to use when choosing
a Firestop Contractor. Look for the list of architects
in the next newsletter!
From the FCIA Board of Directors - Best wishes for a
profitable and safe fall construction season. We look
forward to meeting existing and new members in New Orleans,
