FCIA's Technical Committee Members - Louie Cimino,
Robert Gomez, Chair Mike Dominguez (Firestop Specialties,
Inc.), Kevin Keeney (C.L. Downey Construction, Inc.) and Bill
McHugh, Executive Director, met at "FCIA Florida Keys
Headquarters". Accomplishments include revisiting the
"Mission" of the committee, producing parts of the
new "FCIA Installer Education Module" publication,
and producing the first "FCIA Standard Answer".
The FCIA Firestop Installer Education modules will be used
by member firms to educate their employees about firestopping
and it's Life Safety "zero tolerance" installation
protocol.
The FCIA Standard Answer program is to provide FCIA Member
firms with credible "3rd party answers" to common
technical questions Firestop Contractors answer frequently.
Watch for more of these in the future.
FCIA Accreditation Committee - Aedan Gleeson, (Gleeson Powers,
Inc.) Chair, Randy Boscawen, (Multi Con Fire Containment)
and Don Sabrsula (FireSafe of Houston) teleconferenced about
development of a "Inspector Firm Standard", a "FM
4991 type program for inspection firms.
FCIA's Education and Committee Action Conference -
This year's spring meeting is in Las Vegas at the Embassy
Suites Hotel, by the Hard Rock Casino. The Program Committee
has an action packed program assembled, with Bill Koffel,
FCIA Code Consultant, Education Curricula Tours at Carpenter
and Insulator facilities, and Ray Bizal, NFPA Regional Manager
speaking to us about the NFPA 5000 Code. Committee work is

Industry Issues - FCIA and the Passive Fire and Life
Safety Protection industry's common passion is effective use
of compartmentation AND a sprinkler system to protect a building's
occupants and contents. The industry would include FCIA, IFC,

- Gypsum manufacturers/Institute, AWCI, Fire Door Manufactures.

The AFSCC is sponsoring a "firesafety summit meeting"
on Wednesday, April 2, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Rosemont
"A" room, Hyatt Hotel, O'Hare International Airport
in Chicago. The purpose of the "summit" is to generate
financial donations for the AFSCC
PR Campaign.
FCIA Code Consultant - Bill Koffel, Koffel Associates,
FCIA Code Consultant has been rehired to represent FCIA in
the code development process. Bill has been honored by the
Society of Fire Protection Engineers, as it's President for
2003. He understands all facets of the fire protection industry,
which is important to FCIA and the "Passive Fire and
Life Safety" industry's future.
