FCIA Board of Directors Meeting - "Board Flash" - The FCIA Board met in Orlando Florida, January 15, 16 and 17, 2003. The FCIA Board of Directors expressed an interest to get more FCIA Members involved in Committee work, and involved in the association. Below are some highlights:

The FCIA Board met with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) committee about the proposed "ASME Standard for Firestop Installers". Scott Rankin, (Pyro-Stop, LLC) and Bill McHugh, (FCIA Executive Director) were appointed to the committee by ASME to represent FCIA.

The FCIA Board decided to watch the Al Paul Lefton (APL) PR Campaign develop over the next year, before financially committing resources to the program. FCIA is still a relatively new organization, with financial resources being used already for other initiatives. APL presented their program in Nashville Friday morning. We'll hear more about this as it develops.

The FCIA Board dedicated itself to research Firestop Education programs available in the industry. Both the Technical Committee and Education Committees have produced education material for use by members.

Harley Ridin' Roger McKenzie (McKenzie Insulation) and Ray Usher (SUPERL, Inc.) rode their way around Orlando on Harley Davidson Motorcycles after the board meeting. Who said FCIA Board of Directors meetings have to be all work and no play!!

FCIA Committees in Action - During January and early February, the Technical & Program Committees met via teleconference. The Technical Committee is planning a meeting in the Florida Keys Feb. 27 - March 2. Get involved in a committee by contacting the chair. Visit www.fcia.org/committees.php for contact info.

FM 4991 DRI CEU Units - Visit www.fcia.org for DRI CEU reporting forms and requirements to maintain your DRI status. Remember, if you are an FM 4991 Approved Contractor DRI, you need to have at least 6 CEU's per 3 year period to keep the DRI Current. Secondly, you'll need to pass the DRI Test again around your anniversary date. The DRI Exam will be offered in Las Vegas at the FCIA Education and Committee Action Conference, and November 5 - 7, 2003 - the "Firestop Industry Conference".

" Info@fcia.org " - The FCIA Board and Staff Team uses the info@fcia.org email address as a tool for to follow up on new member inquiries. Emails to info@fcia.org are forwarded to the FCIA office and the FCIA Board of Directors. Board members and FCIA Staff make prospective members feel welcome through a personal contact after receiving an inquiry. If you want to send a message to the FCIA Board to express your views, feel free to use info@fcia.org or board@fcia.org. Communication to / from the board is important. FCIA is a member based association.

Architects, Code Officials, Fire Marshals, General Contractors and suppliers all visit the FCIA Website Member Pages for information about FCIA Member Contractors. or alternatively,

  • FCIA Members submit a page of HTML coding with all the "fancy trimmings". All references, links, images need to reside elsewhere on another server for FCIA to link. As always, FCIA reserves the right to edit the text, if necessary.

FCIA Research Questions - What can you offer to help FCIA get better and grow it's membership? What do you need from FCIA? What seminars would you like to see at FCIA Conferences? Please reply to this message to submit your views. We'll share the results.
