President's Message 2013

Tracy Smith, 2013 President

Thank you all the contractors, manufacturer and associate members who have supported me and this organization throughout the years. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be FCIA’s 2013 President.

A special thanks to 2012 FCIA President Jodi Clem, the 2012 Board of Directors, Committee Chairs & Volunteers, and all the Membership for participation and hard work this past year.

As President, I’m proposing 2013 as "The Year of the Contractor". FCIA is active in many areas trying to enhance the Specialty Firestopping Contractor. Help build the trade this year by becoming a FM 4991 Approved or UL Qualified Contractor. Help us enhance our presence around the world through participation. I look forward to working with everyone in 2013.

To all new or potential members -- Welcome!! The FCIA has a wide variety of diverse, experienced members from many different trades looking to help others get involved in FCIA to advance our industry. How do you get involved? Start with attending FCIA’s Education and Committee Action and Firestop Industry Conference and Trade Show events. These conferences bring in world renowned speakers who cover many valuable industry subjects related to our industry. Plus, the added bonus is the vast wealth of knowledge shared and relationships built with other FCIA members at the conferences. Face to face relationships are hard to replace.

I believe that if we continue to help improve fire and life safety through our DIIMM – Design, Install, Inspect, Maintain and Manage philosophy, we will be able increase reliability and further improve how Specialty Firestop Contractors are perceived as a trade throughout the world.

As the FCIA we want to continue to be driving the force in our industry with our Contractor Members, Manufacture Partners and Associate Members.

Our industry along with many others have had it tough for several years. With the hopeful rebound of our worldwide economies, I wish all of you a successful year. Please join us in continuing this journey helping to make 2013 an exciting and prosperous year for all of us.
